Towards an AI-Driven Clinical Decision Support System for Diabetic Footwear Prescription
This talk will present preliminary findings towards the development of an AI-driven Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) designed to assist clinicians in prescribing offloading footwear and orthoses for individuals with diabetes. Using retrospective medical records from a specialised care centre, we examine how factors such as patient activity levels, clinical assessments of foot pathology, and other key parameters influence the selection and design of therapeutic footwear components. By leveraging artificial intelligence, the system aims to support a more standardised and data-informed approach to personalised offloading device prescription. This work has the potential to enhance clinical decision-making, improve patient outcomes, and streamline care pathways in diabetic foot management.
